We’ve talked a few times in passing before about the “Books Aware of Their Own Bookishness” collection here at Butterflies & Aliens North, that includes such classics as The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales and The Monster at the End of This Book. Well Give This Book Away, written by Darren Farrell and illustrated by Maya Tatsukawa, could have been considered the latest addition to this collection, except for that fact that it’s no longer in our collection. Happy Fourth Birthday!
And here we are, January 1, 2025, and celebrating the fourth birthday of the Butterflies & Aliens Library of Literary Eccentricities & Rarities!
So… crazy year has followed crazy year — even less posting in 2024 than in 2023! — but we are still here, and what began as our little digital refuge back in 2021 will continue to be just that, a place we can escape to once in a while to be unabashedly nerdy and bookish, and we hope you can too…

A different kind of immortality…
Today we learned the sad news that Anne Rice died yesterday, Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the age of 80.
Although she wrote over 30 novels, for us here at the Butterflies & Aliens Library, as we’re sure it is for many fans, Anne Rice meant The Vampire Chronicles trilogy – Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and The Queen of the Damned.
Happy Towel Day!
One of the earliest books we bonded over here at the Butterflies & Aliens Library was Douglas Adams’ profoundly comic and comically profound trilogy in (at least) four parts, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and we have definitely known where our towels are ever since.
My Canadian Family
In honour of Family Day, celebrated on the third Monday of February here in our corner of the “real” world, we thought it fitting to introduce you to one of those book friends, Raina Schnider, and give a shout out to her book My Canadian Family.

It is against that backdrop, in honour of the annual day of celebration of love and flower shops that we call Valentine’s Day, that I share one of my favourite books of the love poetry genre, Ten Little Zombies: A Love Story.
